Personally, I think that thermal carafe coffee maker is the next best thing that had happened in the coffee maker industry. The most important invention is of course the coffee maker itself!
If you have seen vacuum coffee maker or even how people are brewing coffee using coffee socks in Asia, you would really appreciate the coffee makers that you are using. And I am not even talking about those complicated espresso machines. The drip filter coffee maker by itself is a work of marvel, which I consider as one of the best coffee makers.
Just by scooping in the coffee grounds, pouring in the water then waiting for a while, you would get to savor some very good coffee. Now, don't you think this is the best invention for the coffee industry?
However, the problem with drip filter coffee maker is the quantity that one must consume when a pot is being brewed. We are talking about at least 4 to 6 cups of coffee being brewed.
So, if you are one person drinking it, usually there would be some wastage. Noticing the situation, companies come out with warmer plates, designed to keep the coffee warm. But, these warmer plates created more problems.
Firstly, the warmer plates are either too hot or not hot enough. If it is too hot, then it would burn the coffee that it was supposed to keep warm. In this way, you still have to throw away the coffee, you probably would not want to bring bitter coffee right?
Some warmers of course, are not equipped to effectively warm the coffee, so you ended up with cold coffee. Again, this is also a coffee that you would not be drinking as well.
In the end, the warmer plates are not very effective in keeping your coffee hot and fresh for longer than 15 minutes and then someone came out with the idea of a thermal carafe.
By brewing the coffee straight into the thermal carafe, not only are you able to keep the coffee for at least 2 hours, you are saving on the electricity as well. Enjoying tasty coffee and being environmentally friendly at the same time.
Regarding the number of hours that you are able to keep the coffee warm, it varies from companies to companies, but at least a thermal carafe is able to keep coffee warm for up to 2 hours.
Some better brands are able to keep coffee hot and fresh for up to 4 hours! The best brands in thermal technology has to be zojirushi, they have a reputation in keeping coffee hot for up to 6 hours!
For keeping my coffee hot and fresh for up to 4 hours, I rate that thermal carafe coffee maker as the second best invention in the coffee industry...
